It’s that time of year again to binge all watch plenty of Christmas movies and this is a Chatter Box Film selection of 40 best festive movies to watch.

Christmas movie list:

40. Family for Christmas (2015)

Lacy Chabert character Hannah Dunbar is unhappy with how her life is going and one she unknowingly speaks her wish to a guy that turns to be the real Santa. Hannah’s life changes this Christmas!

39. Unlikely Angel (1996)

Famous country Singer: Dolly Parton stars as an unlikely angel; who is sent down to Earth, to bring a family back together for the holidays.

38. Santa Who?

Comedy legend: Leslie Nielsen stars as Santa Claus, in the festive comedy. An accident happens, causing Santa to forget who he is. He is helped by Children to save Christmas. Will he finally remember in time?

37. Pete’s Christmas (2013)

Pete is stuck in a repeating loop on his least-favourite day of the year: Christmas Day. Similar to Groundhog Day that’s coming up in this list.

36. All is Bright/Almost Christmas (2013)

Two shady crooks played by Paul Giamatti and Paul Rudd think of a new get-rich-quick scheme by selling Christmas Trees.

35. Snow Day

People in an upsate New York town are snowed in; this brings the best news for the Children that Schools will be closed. The kids do everything they can to keep it that way.

Weather-man Phil Connors (played by Bill Murray) has his day repeat over and over again! Find out if he break out of the loop and understand his life in this comedy classic.

33. Bad Santa

Billy Bob Thornton plays as a crooked drunk man dressed as Santa, stealing from people and meets an unexpected friend. There is also a Bad Santa 2.

32. Ernest Saves Christmas

A very wacky family comedy movie. Jim Varney plays an energetic and bizarre man named Ernest. Santa gets mixed up in looking for someone to take his place and Ernest gets in the way in the funniest ways.

31. Mixed Nuts (1994)

Another wacky and crazy comedy. Centered around a crisis hotline business during Christmas. Filled with a star-studded cast such as Steve Martin, Rita Wilson, Liev Schrieber and Adam Sandler.


30. Call Me Claus (2001)

Whoopi Goldberg works for a TV Shopping network as Lucy, in this magical Christmas family/comedy movie. Until, Nick turns up with a major job; to be the next Santa!

29. Get Santa

After crashing his sleigh and coming to the attention of the local police, Santa Claus asks a father and son for help to round up his reindeer so he can return home and ensure that Christmas is not ruined for all.

28. Batman Returns (1992)

Michael Keaton’s Batman has an intense Christmas in Gotham; as he deals with Catwoman, the Penguin and an insufferable business man called Max Shreck.

27. The Snowman (1982)

In this beautifully artistic drawn movie. A young boy brings a snowman to life and they go on an adventure to meet Santa. This is where the famous song “We’re Walking In The Air” came from. Narrated by David Bowie. This YouTube video is the full movie.

Jules is a kid that has a hatred for Christmas, after a tragic family loss. Everything changes when he makes a discovery that his grandfather is Santa Claus.

Jim Carrey voices Ebenezer Scrooge in this incredibly well-made animated movie, for Disney’s adaptation of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol.

The Muppet’s created their own version of A Christmas Carol starring Michael Caine. A beloved family classic.

18. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

Clark Griswold can’t catch a break this Christmas as he ‘fights’ to get his work bonus; to finally have his dream home conversion. All while dealing with his crazy relatives turn up, in this chaotic family comedy movie.

17. Gremlins (1984)

Billy Peltzer recieves a rare Christmas gift: a cute little Mogwai creature named Gizmo. He has three rules ‘do not expose the mogwai to light, especially sunlight, which will kill it; do not let it come in contact with water; and above all, never feed it after midnight.’ The Gremlins wreak havoc in a town in this horror comedy movie. 16. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

The Grinch chose to abandon Christmas and live life in solitude a away from WhoVille. Until a young girl called Cindy-Lou tries to convince him to open his heart to Christmas once more and return to the town.

15. The Christmas Chronicles

A brother and sister are finding it difficult this year, with the loss of a loved-one. They stumble upon shocking footage of Santa from a previous year and seek to catch him in the act. Kurt Russell is an impressive Santa Claus in this heartwarming family movie. There is also A Christmas Chronicles 2.

14. Arthur Christmas

Arthur is decendent of Santa Claus, doing everything he can to keep christmas going from the mailroom. One child’s present gets left behind causing Arthur to go to extra lengths!

Tim Allen as business man Scott Calvin, must take on the role of Santa; after putting on the suit. There are two more movies: The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause

12. Jack Frost (1998)

Michael Keaton is back again in another Christmas movie, except he is not Batman this time. He is a snowman called Jack Frost.

11. Scrooged (1988)

Bill Murray delivers a modern adaptation of the classical Charles Dickens book A Christmas Carol. This time Scrooge is Frank Cross: a bitter and unbearable New York TV producer, who is haunted by 3 ghosts to change his ways.

10. Jingle All The Way (1996)

Forgot that toy for your child? Howard did! In an attempt to not see his child feel upset on Christmas day; Howard (Arnold Schwarzenegger) goes on a crazy fun-filled wild ‘goose chase’ across the country to get that last Turbo-Man doll.

9. Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas

Jack Skellington, is a being from Halloween Town. All of a sudden he discovers the opposite to his nature, a Christmas Town and is instantly amazed this place. His obsession causes him to abduct Santa, so he can be like him. All while nearly ruining Christmas. So many catchy songs in this macabre stop-motion animated movie by Tim Burton

8. The Polar Express (2004)

A kid who is on the brink of no longer believing in Santa Claus, gets an unexpected train journey on The Polar Express to the North Pole to witness the magic of Christmas. Partially a musical and the songs are performed beautifully. The animations were created with so much attention to detail.

7. Die Hard

Bruce Willis stars as detective John McClane, travelling home to spend time with his wife, suddenly gets caught up in a hostage situation in this epic festive action movie. However, There has always been a strong debate if Die Hard is a christmas movie. What do you think? Write in comments!

Buddy the Elf finds out that he is not an elf afterall and seeks to find out where he came from, in the heart of New York. Will Ferrel’s performance is comedy gold in this movie!

5. Home Alone

Kevin McAllisters makes an accidental wish to have his parents not be here for Christmas. In a bizarre coincidence, they forget Keving and leave him all by himself. Exept he isn’t alone for long as Harry as Marv are looking to break in. There is also a faithful sequel called Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

4. Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

Susan Walker (Mara Wilson) and her mother Dorey Walker (Elizabeth Perkins) along with a lawyer are the ony ones that can save Santa and Christmas. This movie was adapted fron the original 1947 version with the same name.

3. Santa Claus: The Movie (1985)

David Hiddleston’s Character first takes on the role of Santa in 14th Century and then jumps to the 20th Century not longer after: during the 1980’s. This is when a greedy toymaker threatens to take over Christmas, with the help of a rogue elf called Patches (Dudley Moore).

2. Scrooge (1970)

A wonderful musical adaptation based on the story A Christmas Carol. This features Albert Finney’s brilliant performance in the role. More honourable mentions for A Christmas Carol movies are 1951 version starring Alastair Sim and 1999 version starring Patrick Stewart.

1. It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)

Taking the Chatter Box Film favourite number 1 spot: It’s A Wonderful Life is the ultimate classic Christmas movie. An angel called Clarence, is sent to help a struggling Businessman George Bailey (James Stewart), as he is shown what the people in the town of Bedford Falls would be like if he had never existed.
