Warner Bros. Pictures has finally released a teaser trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, after rumours spread online that the film had been shelved.
The upcoming DC superhero film stars Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul Mateen II and Nicole Kidman.
Previously in 2018, the first Aquaman movie reached a whopping worldwide box office figure of $1.14 billion.
Could WB see the same success for the sequel?
With the current state of audience confusion surrounding what will stay in the DC Universe, it might not be likely. According to James Wan, the only way around it, would be to think of it as a standalone movie, rather than wondering how it fits into the rest of the DC movies.
“Well, ‘Aquaman’ – even the first film – has always been a very standalone film. That was always our approach: that it kind of lives in its own world, and that’s kind of how we’ve approached ‘The Lost Kingdom’ as well.”
James Wan
The latest DC movie Blue Beetle, only managed to reach $114 million worldwide. Although, this isn’t a widely known character amongst general audiences, like Aquaman is. Blue Beetle also lacked having a strong marketing campaign, as actors have not been able to promote the movie during the SAG-AFTRA strike. Black Adam was released long before the strikes and only brought in $391M worldwide, again, not too much of a known character though.
There had been rumours spread online by multiple outlets recently such as ScreenGeek and SmallScreen, that Warner Bros. had given up on Aquaman 2.
After we contacted WB to verify these rumours, reps for Warner Bros. Pictures either declined or did not respond to Chatter Box Film‘s requests for comment.
Six hours later, a teaser trailer was released, seemingly putting an end to those fake rumours.
This quick teaser mentions that an official trailer will be releasing on Thursday 14th September.
What happens in the Aquaman 2 teaser?
Black Manta is getting his revenge for the death of his father. His revenge is on Aquaman and the people in the city of Atlantis. As well as anyone else that is close to Arthur Curry, on the surface.
There is a house burning down that appears to be the one next to the lighthouse, that his Curry’s father lives in. Aquaman can be seen rushing in a panic to the fire, with Queen Mera and his mother. Black Manta may have killed his father.
King Orm is also looking to be in trouble as an underwater machine grabs him with a metal claw.

At one point in the teaser, Aquaman appears to be riding on some form of blue Sea Horse, with who appears to be Queen Mera, at the back of him.
A massive battle takes place under water, at the city of Atlantis; the destruction of buildings and Aquaman and Black Manta dueling.
