Doctor Who is a show that does embrace change, diversity and the characters learn to understand people for who they are, throughout time and space.
While also going up against evil antagonists such as the Daleks; who wish to only have their race left in the universe and Cybermen who want to remove Human emotions and mortality.
In reality, Siobhan Linehan; a fan of the show, was harassed online, just for jokingly ‘shipping’ two upcoming characters together, set to be played by Jonathan Groff and Ncuti Gatwa (who will be the Fifteenth Doctor, for series 14).
Ncuti Gatwa noticed this and then reached out to Siobhan through Instagram; to send a heartwarmingly supportive message.
“I’m sorry you received
Ncuti Gatwa
such a horrible message
from the awful guy
He’s been blocked
and deleted from my
account. Reported him
extensively.
I can’t stand stuff like
that
Really Hope you’re okay.
Lots of love
Ncuts”
After Siobhan posted these, the person recieved a wave of support from the Doctor Who fandom as well.
In the series, the Doctor has also addressed on occasion about how Time Lords have gone beyond “human obsessions with gender and associated stereotypes”, in (series 10, episode 11).
A subsequent message later followed, when Siobhan replied to thank the actor for the kind message, as well as the fan looking foward to the upcoming series. Ncuti proceeded to write:
“We’re looking after the
Ncuti Gatwa
show for you. Promise
Glad you’re okay”
Doctor Who returns this November, 2023; firstly with the 60th anniversary specials consisting of three episodes – starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate. Ncuti Gatwa is then beginning series 14 during the 2023 festive period.
