In the 2018 movie Solo: A Star Wars Story; Donald Glover made his introduction as a younger Lando Calrissian, who meets a young Han Solo portrayed by Alden Ehrenreich.
It was announced in 2020 by Kathleen Kennedy that a Lando series was going to be in the works.
This limited series was originally going to be worked on by American filmmaker; Justin Simien, however, Simien exited the project to work on the Haunted Mansion (2023) movie, that’s releasing in the UK, on August 11, 2023.
Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover are now tapped to write for the Disney+ series. Above the Line exclusively reported on this news, on July 27, and now Variety has also added confirmation, that the series is being written by them both.
In addition to writing, it’s likely that Donald Glover will also be reprising his role as the titular character, or maybe the series is set during Billy Dee William’s time as the character?
Billy Dee Williams is the original actor, who played Lando Calrissian from Star Wars: Episode V – Empire Strikes Back (1980). The actor’s most recent role as the character, is in animation; Williams voiced Lando in Lego Star Wars Summer Vacation (2022). As well as a live-action appearance in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
Currently, there’s no further progress on show until the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes have been resolved. This can only happen if the AMPTP meets the offers that have been proposed.
