There are more movies such as Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 and Dune: Part Two, disappearing from the 2023 movie schedule. In addition to release dates changing for Godzilla x Kong and LOTR: The War of the Rohirrum, as strikes continue.
The studios who are part of the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers), have been delaying plenty of movies since still failing to meet the conditions proposed by writers and actors in the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Here are the new release dates:
Warner Bros. has now delayed Denis Villenevue’s Dune: Part Two; starring Timotheé Chalamet and Zendaya.
This is a movie that was due to release on November 3, 2023, that has been has been pushed to March 15, 2024.
Now, that Dune 2 has moved out from this IMAX release window for November; this has opened up an opportunity for Marvel Studios, to book those IMAX screens during this time for The Marvels.
As well as this, WB has also post-poned the fantasy/adventure monster team up movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, luckily only only by one month at the moment; from March 14, 2024 to the new release date: April 12, 2024.
A new Lord of the Rings movie called LOTR: The War of the Rohirrum, was also delayed by Warner Bros. This film was going to be released on April 12, 2024, and has now been changed to December 13, 2024.
In June 2023, Disney also delayed multiple MCU, Star Wars and Avatar movies and just a month after in July; Sony delayed their upcoming movies including taking Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse completely off the release schedule.
Production on Paramount Pictures’ Mission: Impossible 8 starring Tom Cruise was also halted in July.
M:I 8 is expected to release on June 28, 2024. However, the strikes are still on-going with no clear sign of coming to an end yet, therefore the release date may be subjected to change. Check out our review for Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1.
