Actor, Jared Leto who starred as the ‘Marvel Legend’ Dr. Michael Morbius, has now joined in on the memes about his own movie.
Morbius has been the ‘butt of the joke’ long before the movie ever released. It all began when trailers confused most people about which universe the movie was actually set in. A trailer showing an image of Spider-Man and indications that Michael Keaton may have been playing a larger role in the movie, than just the end-credits.
In addition to this, delays were also happening and later, another misleading trailer came out; continuing to leave fans dissatisfied before seeing the movie.
A few days prior to the release of this Marvel movie, director Daniel Espinosa seemingly revealed spoilers to CinemaBlend as a publicity stunt to spark a viral moment, in order to boost ticket sales.
Poorly received
When the movie released, it was poorly recieved by critics (currently at 17% on Rotten Tomatoes). However, for the audience score; it is at 71%.
Meme Culture
Morbius has rapidly become popular in meme culture. This is a very bizarre article that I never thought that I would be writing… the memes created by fans went so far, as to generate a trend on twitter for weeks past the films release!
There are people using phrases such as ‘You’ve just been Morbed’, ‘It’s Morbin’ time!’ and a Morbillion other variations that is also including #MorbiusSweep.
Morbius is back in cinemas
As reported on by ComicBook.com, Sony Pictures seem to have confused the fans interest in meme culture, with actual interest in enjoying the movie. The studio has re-released Morbius back into over 1,000 cinemas; from June 3.
What time is it?
The viral memes have also reached Jared Leto. As a response to the fans, Leto posted a video on Twitter, with the caption: ‘What time is it?’.
In this video, Jared also jokes about a new script titled ‘Morbius 2: It’s Morbin’ Time‘. The movie is not actually releasing.
