The first official trailer has been released online for Warner Bros. Pictures’ Wonka (2023) movie – directed by Paul King (Paddington).
There has previously been two main live-action movie adaptations of Roald Dahl’s book; these iterations are played by Gene Wilder in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) and Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005).
Except, these films were all set when Wonka is much older and ready to pass on the torch, to one lucky golden ticket winner, called Charlie Bucket; who will take over the chocolate factory.
This movie is far off from meeting Charlie, as the story is following Wonka around 25 years before, at a very early stage in his life. He will be embarking on adventures across Europe, where he discovers that will eventually lead him to become the world-renowned owner of a chocolate factory. Timothée Chalamet (Dune) is playing the titular character.
In the official trailer, Wonka uses his wealthy knowledge of sweets to open up a chocolate shop and encounters an Oompa Loompa (Hugh Grant) along the way. He also faces off against a rival chocolatier cartel, who have inflated their prices high.
People news site was able to provide the first look at Wonka interacting with Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa; he seems to be captured by the chocolatier.
