This is a review for the Netflix movie Red Notice. Directed and written by Rawson Marshall Thurber. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, Ritu Arya and Chris Diamantopoulos.
Red Notice is an action-adventure movie. This follows the world’s most wanted art thief, as interpol try to catch the person that is committing crime internationally.
A thoroughly enjoyable movie! The action feels like it never ends in Red Notice. Ryan and Dwayne’s comedy bounce off eachother really well. There’s so many unexpected twists that was surprising throughout. Just when you think it’s over, something else happens to switch up the story!
Ryan Reynolds’ performance is fun, energetic and heavily comedic. However, Ryan is still ‘playing it this safe’ with his acting range. The way his character acts feels like a very toned down version of how he acted in Deadpool, he doesn’t seem to be able to separate himself from this type of role.
Dwayne Johnson had a fun-packed performance in this. Johnson has been able to escape Jungle style movies for once, except nearly to the end of the movie. Yet, this still involves an adventure to track down priceless objects and acting as if he is an agent. Not really stretching his acting range here.
Gal Gadot’s acting in this is not great. It’s corny, cringe-worthy and Gadot is barely convincing at all as an antagonist. However, her fight sequences/choreography are the cool parts in this film.
There’s not really any stand-out music here to talk about; it’s just the usual generic action/adventure scoring and often subtly complimenting scenes.
The plot to be the first to track down a rare artifact is over-used in these types of movies since Raiders of the Lost Ark came out. However, Red Notice is still an action packed joy-ride and is entertaining to watch!
