The CW has renewed the highly-rated DC show Superman and Lois, for a fourth season. However, there are a few downsides to fans getting their wish for renewal granted.
Currently, Superman and Lois – starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch is a costly VFX heavy series, with a fairly large cast. The show will be reduced from the usual 15 episodes, down to 10 episodes.
Deadline reports that there will also be budget cuts regarding who will stay on as a series regular, although, this is likely to mainly affect the supporting cast.
At a recent Superman celebration event, Tyler Hoechlin shared his support to whoever will proceed him; which is the actor that will be starring in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy movie.
“I am very confident that whoever comes in [for Superman: Legacy]…it’s so funny, people jump so quickly to say ‘That’s not it, that’s not it!’ when they get somebody, but I would just encourage everybody to whoever the next person ends up being [cast as Superman] give them a chance because I’m sure they will be awesome. I think anyone who does this has a huge love for it and a real care for the character, even me, who didn’t really grow up with the character – you know what Superman means to people, and I think it’s just something that you don’t mess with unless you really have a care for it. I’m excited to see whoever the next person is.”

There have also been other shows renewed and cancelled at The CW:
DC’s Gotham Knights is one of the superhero shows that has been cancelled at The CW, after only making it to one season – this was about a group of teens who up against the Court of Owls, after being framed for the death of Batman.
The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Gotham Knights is one of the cheapest shows to produce for network, and surprisingly was recieving high viewership ratings, however, it no longer met the high standards that The CW are aiming for.
All American: Homecoming is also a strong performing show, and has been renewed for season 3, there will only be 13 episodes.
Recently, Walker: Independence and The Winchesters were cancelled. Both Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles petitioned to find a new home for their Supernatural and Walker spin-off series, unfortunately, it was not proven to be fruitful as no networks wanted to acquire the shows.
Since its creation in 2012, the Arrowverse also came to an end at the network; after The Flash series finished with a short final ninth season.
