Sony Pictures’ upcoming Spider-Man spin-off movie Madame Web, finally gets an officially confirmed character.
Currently the cast includes Sydney Sweeney, Dakota Johnson, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Adam Scott, Emma Roberts and Tahar Rahim.
Filming for Madame Web began sometime during July, 2022; where locations were made to look like New York City, in the early 2000’s and there was also references appearing to be about Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 2 scenes on newspapers, from 2004.
In August, 2022; The Cosmic Circus news site published an article that mentioned who the actors are playing in Madame Web, however there was no official confirmation, at that time.
Now, in a new article with Variety, that supports a piece of The Cosmic Circus‘ report; Sydney Sweeney is the first actor from the film to confirm that she is playing the role of Julia Carpenter.
Sydney Sweeney shares her reaction about getting the role:
“I was freaking out, of course. I went straight to the comic store, and I bought every comic that mentioned my character.”
Previously, it was believed that Dakota Johnson was going to play this character, as the actor was seen on set; wearing a red leather jacket, similiar to what Julia Carpenter has in the comics. It’s likely that Johnson will be playing Cassandra Webb instead (which is a different version of Madame Web).
What is happening in Madame Web?
There’s also been plenty of speculation surrounding the plot of this movie. One of them is due to Emma Roberts being seen on set as a pregnent character. This may involve heroes saving the destiny of a baby Peter Parker from multiple incoming threats by Spider-Villains such as Ezekiel.
Although, this plot may not make sense if there were props referencing Maguire’s Spider-Man already. It’s important to remember that Morbius has random references in trailers to Spider-Man that never came to fruition, so this may not even appear in the film either.
The plot could be about Tom Holland’s Peter Parker as a baby instead, while also do with Madame Web protecting timelines such as Tobey Maguire’s.
Multiple Sony movies have recently been delayed including Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. It’s good news for Madame Web though, as the film has surprisingly been brought forward by two days earlier and is currently set to release on February 14, 2024.
