In this discussion article, there is a breakdown for the first teaser trailer of Marvel Studios upcoming film The Marvels – directed by Nia DaCosta. As well as a new synopsis and where the characters were last seen.
Brie Larson was first introduced in her 2019 origin movie as Carol Danver, becoming Captain Marvel. There is also the first introduction of Monica Rambeau as a child (Akira Akbar).
In the Disney Plus series WandaVision; Teyonah Parris was cast as the grown up version of Monica. While breaching through Westview; the town that was under Wanda’s spell, Monica discovered her own abilities and used them to defend herself. The character will soon be known to be a superhero called Photon.

Kamala Khan first appears in her very own Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel, as she uses a mystical bangle to tap into abilities, that will save her and her families lives.

At the end of Ms. Marvel series; this is where it leads into the new movie. Kamala Khan switches places with Carol Danvers and now the new teaser trailer shows that Monica will also be switching places with both Carol and Kamala throughout.
Official synopsis for The Marvels
Carol Danvers AKA Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau.
Hexagons
The teaser trailer opens up to Captain Rambeau involved with a S.A.B.E.R mission in space.

Rambeau approaches a mysterious hexagonal shape in space and then she’s flung backwards while switching into Kamala.
Hexagons continue to be shown throughout the MCU.

Especially, the shape recently linked back to Westview, surrounded by an energy field. It’s not yet clear what this shape means for the future of the MCU.
Dar-Benn

Zawe Ashton is playing a Kree leader called Dar-Benn. If you look closely on Dar-Benn’s wrist, she is wearing another Bangle like Kamala’s and she will likely be looking for Khan’s bangle to increase the strength of her empire. The character is also holding the Universal Weapon very similar to Ronan the Accuser’s seen in Avengers: Assemble and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Dar-Benn is a villain in the movie, who can also be seen going up against the three superheroes in their brand new suits, as they co-ordinate switching bodies to fight.
A musical planet?

It was long rumoured that this movie will feature some musical elements, when they reach a planet ruled by Prince Yan. Actor, Park Seo-Joon is now playing Yan D’aladna. The actors can also be seen dancing with in the crowd.
Flerken

Multiple characters are reunited with the Flerken, that has the appearance of a cat. This creature was first seen the Captain Marvel film, it is hilariously the reason why Nick Fury only has one eye.
Nick Fury

Nick Fury is present in this movie; helping out Kamala, Carol and Monica in multiple scenes: in space and at the Khan family home.
When Nick Fury and Monica arrive at Kamala’s home, there are two people already being held captive and at some point Monica is attacked in the house. It’s likely the Flerken sitting between Rambeau and Fury, consumes both of those people.

Does this new appearance protect the fate of Fury? As he was seen in Secret Invasion and now The Marvels. Maybe he is a skrull in either one? Just like he was in Spider-Man: Far From Home. This series releases on June 21, 2023, and The Marvels comes out November 10.
The Marvels is directly following on from Ms. Marvel series; that is set after Multiverse of Madness in the MCU Phase Four timeline.
