The cast has been revealed for Creature Commandos; an upcoming DC animated series, consisting of seven episodes.
In January 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran announced their partital plans for the first chapter of the DCU titled: Gods & Monsters.
This series is also part of the first chapter; which is very fitting, as Creature Commandos is focusing on a team of monsters and freaks.
Originally, the characters were in storylines set during World War II. However, since John Economos (Steve Agee) will be leading the team, the story will now likely be in a present day setting.
Economos was seen in live-action during James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad movie, Peacemaker series, as well as in an end credit for Shazam: Fury of the Gods.
One of the characters appearing in this series is Rick Flag Sr.; the father of Colonel Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman).

- Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic
- Indira Varma as The Bride
- Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky
- Sean Gunn as Weasel/G.I. Robot
- Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus
- David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein
- Steve Agee as John Economos
Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) and some of the other characters will not only appear in animated form, they will also be translating across media, including live-action DC film/TV and games.
In a recent tweet from James Gunn; he mentions that he’s written all of the episodes for the DC series. It also appears a director will still need to be announced, as it’s not Gunn.
I’ve written all the episodes. I’m directing all of the primary actors initial recordings to get the voices right but I’m not the director of the show.

Gunn will however be directing and is already writing for the new Superman: Legacy movie.
