The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a Universal Pictures film directed by André Øvredal. The Dracula movie has already hit online, after a limited cinema release.
Based on a chapter from Bram Stoker’s Dracula novel; where the monster is preying upon the crew of an 1890’s ship at sea.
This horror movie was supposed to be releasing in UK cinemas, on August 11.
However, audiences have not been able to watch the film, as it was taken off from the release schedule at the ‘last minute’, with no further UK release date in sight!
It is due to Hasbro selling eOne, this distributor has now been acquired by Lionsgate. Now, it’s seemingly been thrown online to buy as a digital release, in the US.
Is The Last Voyage of the Demeter still releasing in UK cinemas?
It’s possible that Lionsgate may still decide to release the film in UK cinemas, and maybe this sees better box office success here.
Although, here’s why it may not be releasing in UK cinemas:
In the US, the domestic box office figure revealed that the film has only raked in profits of $13.3 million, and so far with an overall worldwide box office of $18.3 million, including countries such as Italy, New Zealand, Australia, Brazil and France.
So, it’s likely that the film is just not going to hit UK cinemas at all, by instead also going straight to streaming platforms/VOD.
At the end of the day, It may also hurt profits further; as it would have now been subjected to piracy*. That’s always a huge risk with making these films available online, at any point… especially this early into the theatrical release window.
Who stars in this Dracula movie?
The cast includes Corey Hawkins, Zak Olkewicz, Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, David Dastmalchian, Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic, and Nikolai Nikolaeff, with Javier Botet as Dracula.
