The CW has released the first season trailer for Supernatural spin-off titled The Winchesters – with Jensen Ackles, Drake Rodger and Meg Donnelly.
Jensen Ackles is also executively producing and narrating the show, alongside his wife Danneel Ackles.
Supernatural was a tv series that aired for 15 seasons between 2005 – 2020, and is the longest running show on The CW. The horror/drama series followed brothers: Sam (Jared Padelecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles); as they hunted down supernatural beings such as monsters, demons and even battling gods.
The Winchesters Synopsis
The Winchesters is set before Sam and Dean, and from the perspective of their parents Mary (Meg Donnelly and John Winchester (Drake Rodger). This series explores the untold love story about how their parents met and their lives of hunting down monsters.
Is the spin-off canon?
In an article with Variety, Jensen Ackles mentions that:
‘If we went back in time and we actually saw the story of mom and dad and how they met — but do it in a way that skews the narrative so that we hit those waypoints that we established on ‘Supernatural,’ but get you from A to B, B to C, C to D in a way that is really unexpected.’ And then we found a way to continue that story in a way that might be surprising’.
