Disney announces ‘Toy Story 5’, ‘Frozen 3’, ‘Zootopia 2’ amidst losses

Newly reinstated chief executive of Disney, Bob Iger, recently held a Q1 meeting; to discuss earnings for the company and to present results about Disney+.

Disney has lost $1.5 billion in revenue, as well as 2.4 million Disney Plus subscribers since the launch of the streaming service in 2019; due to the platform not being able to renew the streaming rights to the Indian Premier League on Disney+ Hotstar, in South East Asia/India.

Bob Iger also brought unfortunate news to the presentation when he announced that 7,000 employees will be laid-off to recover the losses.

In an effort to grow more revenue to the company, Iger has announced yet another sequel in the Toy Story franchise.

Toy Story 5 is bringing back Buzz Lightyear, currently Tim Allen is confirmed to return and it seems that Tom Hanks could be back, as Allen mentions Woody in his recent tweet.

Tim Allen writes: ‘See ya soon Woody, you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity. And off we go to a number 5! To infinity and beyond!’

How much did Toy Story 4 make at the box office?

It seemed inevitable that there would be a sequel; when Toy Story 4 in 2019 had a highly successful worldwide box office of $1.07 billion (£882.97 million).

How much did Frozen 2 and Zootopia make?

Iger also announced there will also be sequels to these Disney animated movies: Frozen III and Zootopia 2. Frozen 2 released in the same year as Toy Story 4 and gained separate $1.4 billion (£1.18 billion). The first Zootopia movie also reached $1 billion (£824.6 million) when it released worldwide in 2016.

No current information to any cast returning as of yet for Zootopia and Frozen.
