The first Mortal Kombat reboot movie was released in 2021, garnering $83.5 million (£65.5M) at the worldwide box office – produced by James Wan. New cast photos for Mortal Kombat 2 introduce who will also be in the movie.
Now, a sequel is in the works, as director, Simon McQuoid brings in more fan-favourite characters from the game.
Moon Knight‘s Jeremy Slater is working on this film as a head writer. During the time that Slater’s hiring was announced in 2022; the writer took to Twitter teasing what to expect: “Beyond excited to be joining this team! We’re building something bigger and better and bloodier that’s going to blow people’s minds.”
Baraka and Johnny Cage are set to make their introductions into Mortal Kombat 2; CJ. Bloomfield (The Secret She Keeps) will be playing Baraka.
Karl Urban (Judge Dredd, The Boys, Star Trek) will be portraying the movie star, who also has a background in martial arts.
Todd Garner; a producer for the movie has shared two photos: of the cast, as well as teasing a chair with the character name ‘Baraka’ on it.

Lewis Tan; who played Cole Young in the first movie will also be returning, in addition to Joe Taslim coming back as Sub Zero, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Josh Lawson as Kano, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi, and Max Huang as Kung Lao.
Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Desmond Chiam as Edenian King Jerrod, and Martyn Ford as Shao Khan.
The plot for Mortal Kombat 2 is currently under wraps, as well the release date. Although the film may release in 2024/2025.
