Final Days (2020) Review – A frustrating horror film

Man trying to hold back a zombie from breaking through his door

This review contains spoilers.

Final Days (also known as ‘Alone’ outside of the UK). Directed by Johnny Martin; is an infected/zombie type horror film from Lionsgate – starring Tyler Posey and Summer Spiro.

The movie is slow and boring to watch, there’s very little character development for Aidan (Tyler Posey) as he is just stuck going back and forth to his apartment throughout it all, the only thing he gains is some courage to attack one of those ‘screamers’. The character’s actions are frustrating and repetitive, and just when the film was almost going somewhere… the plot reverts back to the same room once again.

Donald Sutherland is on the posters and in a lot of the trailer, yet he is in the film for roughly 3 or 4 minutes, expecting to attract people to see it, by riding on star power like that, is rather lazy and misleading and the scenes he was in only serve to slow down the film further.

Summer Spiro’s character Eva, is one of the survivors, who Aiden has only just noticed, which is ridiculous considering this person has been in the opposite flat for so many days while the power was on and now he’s only just noticed?

Spiro is in the film for half of the movie, annoyingly from the other side of the balcony and when they do properly meet, it just ends. It’s a weak plot, as all Aiden ended up trying to do was go from one building to the next, and that failed.

There’s also parts of the plot left unfinished, such as his family who contact him, is his parents still alive, is his sister safe? We’ll likely never know as the film abruptly ends once he meets that woman he’s been instantly pining after for 2 days.

The infected people could talk but the plot never explains how it happened, which sometimes isn’t explained in other films anyway. These zombie performers were actually quite good in the film.

Final thoughts

Poor acting and dull, I feel like I wasted my time watching this film, and I don’t plan to ever watch it again.

  1. Had to laugh at this movie, horror really. I literally howled at it. I thought it was hilarious 😂 Crap plot. Donald with his Navaho spear. You look like your hungry. When he sees then twinkies I never laughed so hard. Yeah plots all over the gaff, but actually worth a watch. There’s no need to disect the whole movie, one thing that I did wonder though is why the helicopters crashed and where was the military. And he wouldn’t of noticed about Eva as someone has written here because you don’t go staring into next man’s home, there is a thing called privacy, but she did strike me as like an hallucination at 1st as she was just so flambase about the whole situation. Guess it’s one way to meet and date a new girl.. worth a watch lol..
