Jackie Chan & Ralph Macchio team up for new Karate Kid film

In 2022, a new Karate Kid movie was announced to be in the works from Sony Pictures – directed by Jonathan Entwistle.

Now, in a new video from Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, both actors are teaming up to star in a feature film.

Ralph Macchio played Daniel LaRusso in three Karate Kid movies during the 1980’s and then reprised his role in the 2018 Cobra Kai series, that currently has five seasons, and a final sixth season on the way, for Netflix.

In the 2010, another movie was made also titled The Karate Kid, where Jackie Chan took on the role of Mr. Han; who trained Jaden Smith’s character; Dre Parker.

There is also a global casting search for an actor to play the next Karate Kid.

Ralph Macchio says in the video “We’re starring in a new Karate Kid movie together”.

Jackie Chan then says in the video “That’s big news! But we even have bigger news. We’re looking for the next Karate Kid “

Macchio mentions “That’s right, the global search for the star of our new film starts right now. So let’s wax on, wax off everybody”.

Who is the next Karate Kid?

This is the description for the role of the next Karate Kid character called Li Fong: ‘Looking for an actor to portray Chinese or Mixed-Race Chinese
and between 15-17 years old. He speaks fluent English. Conversational Mandarin is a strong plus. He’s smart, scrappy and a skilled martial artist. Any sort of martial arts, movement, gymnastics,
and/or dance experience is strong plus.’

‘The actor must be available for March-June 2024.’
