In a devastating blow to Sony and Insomniac Games; the companies have become the victim of a massive data leak, as a hacker group demanded $2 million.

On December 12, a hacker group known as Rhysida, was threatening to publish over 1.3 million files of Insomniac Games internal data, and the developer has not reached the deadline of the ransom.

CyberDaily first reported that the hackers have now published 98 percent of these files online on Dec. 19; due to Rhysida not receiving 50 bitcoins; which is currently equivalent to around $2 million.

What’s in the Insomniac Leak?

These leaks are damaging to the games developer as they contain employee data (passport scans, addresses, contact details), termination documents, internal HR documents, screenshots of private slack channels.

In other data surfacing, there is Wolverine test gameplay, as well as various screenshots fron the game, and according to the leaks: Liam McIntyre is voicing the titular role.

Also among the documents, is a slate of upcoming unannounced games from being developed by Insomniac Games, which reveals a Venom game or DLC, to be releasing in 2025, Wolverine is scheduled for 2026.

There is looking to be a four to five-year wait for Spider-Man 3; releasing in two parts during 2027 & 2028. A new Ratchet & Clank game is being developed for 2029, and lastly, there’s an X-Men game slated for 2030.

Insomniac Games has yet to respond to the events that have transpired overnight, although EuroGamer reports that Sony are investigating this matter.

Update December 22, 2023: Insomniac has shared an official statement, in response to the hacking, see the full quote here:

Thank you for the outpouring of compassion and unwavering support.

It’s deeply appreciated. We’re both saddened and angered about the recent criminal cyberattack on our studio and the emotionaltoll it’s taken on our dev team. We have focused inwardly for the last several days to support each other.

We are aware that the stolen data includes personal information belonging to our employees, former employees, and independent contractors. It also includes early development details about Marvel’s Wolverine for Play Station 5.

We continue working quickly to determine what data was impacted. This experience has been extremely distressing for us. We want everyone to enjoy the games we develop as intended and as our players deserve.

However, like Logan… Insomniac is resilient. Marvel’s Wolverine continues as planned. The game is in early production and will no doubt greatly evolve throughout development, as do all our plans.

While we appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm, we will shareofficial information about Marvel’s Wolverine when the time is right. On behalf of everyone at Insomniac, thank you for your ongoing support during this challenging time.
