LIZZIEHEAD (2023) is an independant comedy/drama TV movie – directed, produced and written by M.W. Daniels.
This movie has won multiple awards such as best feature at the New York Monthly Film Awards and a special award for best comedy at The Best International Film Festival.
Charlotte Gould stars the titular role of “Lizzie Barnett”; a wild, quirky and outspoken character. Gould doesn’t hold back with her performance while expressing a striking approach to dark and crude humour, in this raunchy short movie.
Tom Coulston portrays “Ben Furrows”; the actor had a good performance right from the beginning, especially when Ben has funny reactions to some of the scenerios and line exchanges that he gets into with Lizzie.
The clever comedic timing and transitions for certain scenes of the movie are very reminiscent of Edgar Wright’s earlier work in a tv series called Spaced, except that LIZZIEHEAD is more explicit.
In terms of dialogue, try to work on writing more creative lines in future movies that will help convey a character expressing themselves without every other line being stuffed with profanities. Some of it works in scenes however for the rest, it felt forced especially during line delivery and exchanges with the supporting cast.
One of the other great parts to this near 40-minute film is also the sound editing; excellent dialogue isolation when outdoors, mixed really good between transitions. As well as the light musical compositions that work well for this comedy.
The film doesn’t take itself too seriously, although looking past all of this comedy and the sexual themes, there is something quite sincere about Lizzie’s story involving family, which helps to tie it all together.
