Gina Carano has decided to file a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm; claiming this was down to wrongful termination of employment.
In 2021, actress and MMA fighter Gina Carano was fired by Disney and Lucasfilm, as well as dropped by talent agency UTA, due to her controversial online activities.
Carano starred alongside Pedro Pascal as Cara Dune in the Star Wars franchise series The Mandalorian. Until the actress was fired between the space of season 2 and 3.
Gina shared differing viewpoints on social media during the Pandemic; against people being pressured and forced into having COVID-19 vaccines. Gina Carano also posted screenshots comparing how people are treated with different political views to how Jewish people suffered during the war, in addition to alleged transphobic views and US voting fraud conspiracy.
These posts among many others received backlash including threats, and this resulted in Disney seeing the Carano’s posts, which lead to the company deciding to fire her.
At the time Disney CEO, Bob Chapek posted this about Gina Carano:
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm & there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural & religious identities are abhorrent & unacceptable.”
In a very lengthy post on X, Gina writes a response Disney’s decisions:
“The truth is I was being hunted down from everything I posted to every post I liked because I was not in line with the acceptable narrative of the time. My words were consistently twisted to demonize & dehumanize me as an alt right wing extremist. It was a bullying smear campaign aimed at silencing, destroying & making an example out of me.
The thing is I never even used aggressive language. I shared thought provoking quotes, pictures, memes & occasionally I used my own words, not with aggression but with respect & the occasional comedy to keep the mood light in dark times.”
Now, the actress has the assistance of Elon Musk’s lawyers from X, to build a case against Disney and Lucasfilm:
“To my surprise, a few months ago I received an email from a lawyer who had been hired by X to look into my story & many others. Turns out after sending them as much information as I could gather these past few months, my now lawyers & X believe whole-heartedly in my case & are moving forward.”
Gina is looking to be rehired back into the Star Wars franchise as Cara Dune once again.
Currently, Ahsoka Season 2 and The Mandalorian Movie are officially confirmed to be in-development.
