As February 29 is a celebration of Superman’s birthday; James Gunn has shared the first look of the suit symbol.
The upcoming DC superhero film has also been retitled from “Superman: Legacy” to “SUPERMAN” instead.
During principal photography, James Gunn has posted the image on his threads page, along with this comment.
“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday (!) superman”
When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025. Happy Birthday, Clark!”

The look of this symbol was captured on James Gunn’s iPhone, and it has a yellow outline combined with the red and yellow S on a slightly raised threaded texture. The shape of the crest and suit design is inspired by 1996 Alex Ross Kingdom Come Superman.
This suit is also covered in snow, which suggests this is likely taking place near the Fortress of Solitude.
David Corenswet is set to star as “SUPERMAN” alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, in cinemas on July 11, 2025.
Here is everything we know so far about the movie including; cast listings and updates.
