Shaun of the Dead returns to cinemas for the 20th Anniversary

Universal Pictures UK and Focus Features are bringing back Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead to cinemas, and this film is also remastered in Dolby Vision and Atmos.

This is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the hit British comedy-horror film since releasing in 2004; starring Simon Pegg as Shaun and Nick Frost as Ed. In 2004, the movie gained nearly $30 million worldwide.

These two close friends must find a way to survive a zombie apocalypse and their best way to do this is by going to the nearest pub (The Winchester), all while Shaun is trying to patch things up with Liz & friends and protect his family. And if they get hungry while they wait for all of this to blow over; there are peanuts and John has a breville out back to do a toastie!

On Instagram, director Edgar Wright reflects on the success of the film changing his life:

“Twenty years ago, the worldwide release of ‘Shaun of the Dead’ changed my life forever. Its reception since then has continued to be incredible, largely due to the passionate fans who have championed it with cricket bats aloft. Now, as we celebrate its bloody 20th anniversary with a brand-new Dolby Atmos and Vision remastered version, I’m beyond excited for everyone to experience it once again on the big screen-the way it was always meant to be seen: large, loud, and with quite a lot of red on it.”

Where is Shaun of the Dead screening?

Shaun of the Dead is returning to cinemas in both the US, and UK and Ireland, however these will be on different dates.

For the US: Focus Features will be bring the movie back to cinemas from August 29.

For the UK and Ireland: Universal Pictures UK are re-releasing Shaun of the Dead on September 27.

Update July 28, 2024: Studiocanal will be re-releasing Shaun of the Dead, in France, sometime in October.

There are many re-releases for other movies happening this year such as the eight live-action Spider-Man Marvel movies which will be back in UK cinemas from August 2.

Paramount Pictures’ classic The Italian Job movie will be returning to cinemas on August 23.
