James Gunn wraps filming on new Superman movie

James Gunn announces that filming has wrapped on the upcoming Superman movie, which is set to release in 2025. David Corenswet also celebrates in a new video.

At the end of January 2023, heads of DC Studios; Gunn and Safran revealed some of their slate that will be part of the next 10 years of the DC Universe. The DCU will be set out in chapters and Superman is part of Chapter One: Gods & Monsters.

Filming began at the end of February, 2024, in Svalbard, Norway; these were scenes for the Fortress of Solitude. There was also filming taking place in Atlanta, Georgia and Cleveland, Ohio, as well as Union Terminal and Headlands Beach State, also in Ohio. And after five months, the superhero movie has finally wrapped.

Director, James Gunn celebrated online by sharing his reaction about the journey of making this film so far:

‘And that’s a wrap.
God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life. I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor. The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we’ve shared together on set – and for that I am forever grateful.’

Superman actor, David Corenswet shared an Instagram story; eating a chocolate cake while hand signalling that filming has wrapped.

Rachel Brosnahan

Rachel Brosnahan also shared the Svalbard photo with the caption “That’s a wrap! (still have Svalbard FOMO)”; which means that Lois Lane was likely not in the Fortress of Solitude scenes. Although Lex Luthor (Nicholas Holt) will be visiting as he can be seen with the rest of the cast and crew for Fortress scenes.

VFX Supervisor, Stephane Ceretti mentions that Superman will now enter post-production, however VFX has already been currently underway.
