Sony Pictures has officially announced when the fourth installment of Spider-Man is releasing.
This comes after the highly successful third film Spider-Man: No Way Home; which reached a worldwide box office figure of $1.95 billion, in 2021.
Jon Watts directed the first trilogy starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, although Watts is not returning to direct this time.
It was reported in September by Deadline that the directorial torch has been passed onto Destin Daniel Cretton instead. Cretton directed the 2021 Marvel Studios’ film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which grossed $432.2 million worldwide.
In a video podcast by Rich Roll on October 17, 2024: Tom Holland discussed the creative planning for the fourth film:
“I want to make many more. But you know, we’re working now, with the pedal to the metal. We’re trying to get it going as soon as possible. Things are looking great! But my biggest thing is the creative, we have a creative and a pitch and a draft, which is excellent! And I read it three weeks ago and it really like lit a fire in me.”
“Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and we at times were bouncing around the living room like, this is a real movie worthy of like the fans respect. But there’s a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going, but it’s exciting”.
Spider-Man 4 is currently scheduled to release in cinemas on July 24, 2026. This film will also be releasing around 3 months after Avengers: Doomsday (May 2026); Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU, this time as Doctor Doom!
