Marlon Wayans has announced there is a new Scary Movie in the works, with Miramax and Paramount Pictures bringing the film to cinemas.
The Wayans Brothers made Scary Movie 1 and 2 a hit; with their comedy-gold writing and their iconic parody of Ghostface from the Scream franchise, which is also a parody of other horror films in its own right.
Every film in the series from the third in 2003 to the fifth film in 2013, had no involvement from the Wayans.
In 2000, the first Scary Movie made $277 million worldwide, and the second film garnered $141 million in 2001. The rest in the franchsie remained under $200 million apart from Scary Movie 5 which saw a steep decline in ticket sales to $78 million.
However, since Keenen, Marlon and Shawn are now making a comeback, they are looking to give the fans what they have been asking for all of these years by bringing their unique take on the parody horror genre back to the big screen.
Marlon Wayans poses alongside parody Ghostface, and has written in the caption on Instagram:
“Last week I said I had a HUGE
ANNOUNCEMENT to make well here it is…WE’RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to
the SCARY MOVIE franchise!
We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.” (Marlon Wayans’ post on Instagram has since been removed).
