James Gunn has debunked plans for a new Max Original Joker series, after posts go viral.
Ever since the success of The Batman spin-off mini-series on Max, titled The Penguin; fans have been eager to see what is being explored next in Matt Reeves’ universe of DC characters.
Anticipation for a new project has led to multiple fan pages/entertainment update accounts managing to spread that a Joker series was in the works; starring Barry Keoghan, and set between The Batman 2 & 3.
During The Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson, Barry Keoghan appears hideous and sinister in his prosthetics while bringing his iteration of the Joker to life. It’s not yet known if or when Barry will show up again in future projects as the character.
Barry Keoghan has also been busy, as the actor was recently seen on set filming for the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie.
The rumour has been viral for a few days about this Joker project. However, these plan are nowhere near to be true, as James Gunn has now debunked this in a new social media post on Threads.
James Gunn writes: ‘Turn on threads and everyone is asking me about this. No there is absolutely no truth to this. A Joker series is not being discussed nor has even come up at this time. Sorry. (Don’t attack @multiverse.nation, they’re just one of many many places reporting this). PS Hi new threads people.‘
Currently, The Batman: Part II is planned to be releasing on October 2, 2026. See more 2026 cinema release dates here!
