Pulse (Medical drama series review)

The cast of a medical drama series on Netflix, in scrubs and uniforms at hospital

Pulse is a 2025 Medical drama series on Netflix; which follows a group of doctors and hospital staff navigating the intense challenges of working during a major hurricane or severe storm.

As a hurricane approaches, the hospital becomes chaotic and every decision is a matter of life or death.

The series focuses on Danielle (Willa Fitzgerald) who has recently been made the leader of the hospital team.Danielle struggles with this role and does not know if she truly had what it takes to be a leader or even if she deserves it.

The series also stars Jessie T. Usher, Colin Woodell, Chelsea Muirhead and Jack Bannon.

I found Pulse to be underwhelming. While the story had lots of potential, I struggled to get invested in both the characters and the story. It wasn’t the cast that was lacking; they were all extremely talented but the writing and pacing often felt focused on creating forced drama. Instead of allowing the tension to build naturally, it often felt forced, which made it more difficult to stay fully invested. Many of the characters felt underdeveloped.

There were moments when I appreciated seeing the backstories of certain characters and how they met or connected over the years. We also learn lots about characters relationships and dating history as the episodes progress.

That being said, Pulse did manage to create a sense of urgency and showcase the struggles people face working in hospitals, which was engaging. Each episode starts with an accident,  However, it didn’t quite capture the excitement I was hoping for, and by the end, I found myself less emotionally connected to the outcome than I would have liked.

Overall, Pulse might appeal to some viewers but It wasn’t my kind of thing. Hopefully, season two will be better and I have a feeling from how things ended I will enjoy season two far more.
