A Harry Potter TV series was officially announced in 2023 by Warner Bros. Discovery. This article contains cast and filming updates.
Production began on July 14, 2025 for Warner Bros. Harry Potter series, which is expected to run for 10 years. The show will also be set in the 90s.
Mark Mylod is directing the series, with Francesca Gardiner as the showrunner and writer, and Adriano Goldman as Director of Photography. J.K Rowling is also serving as an executive producer alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
Each series will adapt each book installment beginning with J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
Fillming is currently taking place at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire; where there are large scale sets built for the train station featuring Platform 9¾, Privet Drive and The Great Hall. As well as filming in London.
An on-site school is also being contructed for children acting in the show.

Variety reports that ‘Season 1 is expected to last until the spring of 2026, with Season 2 then going into production after a short break’.

Director, Mark Mylod mentioned they have ‘8 hours to tell the first book’ and the first season will have 8 episodes.
When is the Harry Potter series premiering?
The HBO Max streaming platform is set to launch in the UK, in 2026.
Harry Potter will premiere on HBO (US) and HBO Max, sometime in 2027.
