Snyderverse cameos get retconned in Peacemaker season 2

John Cena as Peacemaker

This article contains multiple spoilers for Peacemaker season 2 episode 1.

The first episode of Peacemaker season 2 has been released and James Gunn has now brought the show into the DCU.

The multiverse doors featured in season 2 didn’t involve the character having to go from the DCEU to the DCU. This show has retconned season 1, making it as if the DCEU never happened; like they were always in the DCU timeline.

Prior to season 2 premiering, John Cena also made an appearance in Superman as Christopher Smith/Peacemaker and the second season takes place directly after.

In the finale of Peacemaker season 1, Justice League members (Superman, Aquaman, The Flash and Wonder Woman) turned up at the very last minute after everything had already happened to give a brief cameo. Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) was injured in Peacemaker’s arms. There were fish jokes about Aquaman…

Justice League and Justic Gang peacemaker cameos
Justice League cameo in season 1, and season 2 retconned cameos now as Superman, Supergirl and the Justice Gang.

In the retconned “previously in the DCU” scenes of Peacemaker season 2 episode titled “The Ties That Grind”, Peacemaker now encounters Mister Terrific, Superman, Green Lantern’s Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Supergirl. The joke is now replaced with a puke joke about Gardner.

Are Superman and Supergirl in the Justice Gang?

When a fan asked Co-Head of DC Studios James Gunn about this scene, Gunn has mentioned on threads that Superman and Supergirl are not in the Justice Gang, “No but they team up with them a lot like they did in Superman.”.

This DCU does not yet have actors for Flash, Aquaman or Wonder Woman. In 2026, Jason Momoa enters the DCU instead as a different character called Lobo, in the upcoming Supergirl movie, alongside Milly Alcock.

During the classroom scene, a kid still has The Flash emblem on his t-shirt, either they have forgotten to edit this part out or the world knows there’s a current Flash existing in the DCU already.

Christopher Smith is dealing with the aftermath of killing his father, as well as killing his brother Keith when he was younger. This show is of course not recommended at all for kids, while Chris is dealing with his life and a humiliating rejection from the Justice Gang, he has a party at his house involving an orgy scene, much like in The Boys “Herograsm” episode.

Chris’ dad Auggie Smith, played by Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgement Day) built advanced multiversal travel tech in his house, where Peacemaker is able to visit an Earth where his brother and dad are still alive. However, his adventure gets messy when that version of Peacemaker comes after him. Will Chris decide to stay in that other universe? The trailers and first episode do seem to explore Chris considering this.

When is the next episode of Peacemaker?
