The future of the time travelling series Doctor Who has been confirmed by the BBC, with a Christmas special also announced.
Although, this Doctor Who Christmas special is not premiering until 2026. And for international fans of the show, Disney+ is no longer partnering with the BBC on future Doctor Who content after the spin-off series The War Between the Land and the Sea, a 56-second trailer was released in May 2025.
Director of Drama for BBC, Lindsay Salt mentioned: “We’d like to thank Disney+ for being terrific global partners and collaborators over the past two seasons, and for the upcoming The War Between the Land and the Sea. The BBC remains fully committed to Doctor Who, which continues to be one of our most loved dramas, and we are delighted that Russell T Davies has agreed to write us another spectacular Christmas special for 2026. We can assure fans, the Doctor is not going anywhere, and we will be announcing plans for the next series in due course which will ensure the TARDIS remains at the heart of the BBC.”
Who is the next Doctor?
There has been no confirmation who will be the next Doctor, however, at the end of Ncuti Gatwa’s season; some timey-wimey situation happend with Billie Piper appearing in place of Ncuti… there hasn’t been an explanation if this is Bad Wolf taking his place, The Doctor regenerating into looking like his former companion or something else.
