One More Shot follows Minnie (Emily Browning) who wants to win back her ex. She gets invited to a New Year’s Eve party, and gets given a bottle of tequila. She soon realises that after each shot it takes her to the start of the night, so she must keep restarting the night to win back her ex, but things don’t go according to plan.
This a fantastic film that I really enjoyed, directed by Nicholas Clifford. The plot had lots of funny, surprising and unexpected moments throughout. Lots of the moments were unexpectedly wild including an extremely gory and graphic scene but done for comedy. I also liked the romantic aspect.
The highlight of the film was watching Emily Browning as Minnie; she has great comedic timing and is a very talented actress. Throughout the film, we see her experience a wide range of emotions – from being kind and caring to acting cool and badass, and even becoming angry. I enjoyed that even if she didn’t like people, she would always try to be nice to them and never mean. I also liked Minnie’s party outfit dress and shoes.
Another great thing about this film is how many unique situations it explores from car chases and much more. The movie has lots of laughs and heart.
One More Shot did have a few issues that stood out: for example; I found the first twenty minutes to be rather slow-paced, which made it a little bit difficult to get fully engaged with the story at the beginning. Although, once the plot picked up, it became much more interesting, but the slow start slightly affected the overall pacing.
I would have also liked the film to explore how all of the characters knew each other, as it seemed to brush over that aspect quite quickly; understanding their relationships could have added more depth and emotional impact to the story.
Additionally, I found it unclear why the characters couldn’t simply take a sip of alcohol to travel back in time or whether it specifically had to be a shot. And why that rule existed in the first place. A little more explanation around that concept would have made the time-travel element feel more consistent and believable.
Overall, One More Shot is a great film that I would highly recommend, especially with New Year’s Eve just around the corner. It’s full of laughs, heart, and plenty of surprising moments that keep you engaged from start to finish. The film also sets up a potential sequel, which I’d be very interested in seeing.
