The Revenge Club (Series review)

The Revenge Club is a new six-part series appearing on Paramount+ UK.

Six strangers meet at a Divorce Support Group and form an alliance to pool their various skills to bring audacious revenge to those who caused them ill.

Starring a bevy of talent from Martin Compston (no accent here), Aimee-Ffion Edwards (Peaky Blinders) and Meera Syal this six-part darkly comic series follows the half dozen hapless strangers reeling from heartbreak as they seek the eponymous revenge. Added to the cast are Douglas Henshall (Shetland) and Sharon Rooney.

The first episode – all six are available at once – finds us with Emily (Edwards), who comes home to find her husband cheating on her with her best friend. We flash forward to her losing, not just her husband, but also her job and now home.

At her first meeting, she meets Calum (Compston) outside, they are late and through the group therapy we hear about the other four members. Calum is recently divorced and still holds a candle to his ex-wife and not wanting to let down his near teenage daughter whose feelings are being compromised by her mother.

In a six episode series, we will follow the revenge of each member; with Emily’s revenge taking precedence as her and Calum share more time together, feelings begin to emerge for each other.

A series with this much talent will provide something for everyone; it can be enjoyed in bite sizes or as a binge-watch, and it is an entertaining UK series on the Paramount platform.
