Thrash follows numerous people, mainly a girl named Lisa who is pregnant. A huge hurricane storm floods the town she is in. At the same time, numerous killer sharks appear around her, and others must survive. Along the way, she finds help from a teenage girl, but will everyone be able to survive, including her baby?
Thrash is a good film and I much prefer it to The Meg. The plot is very easy and simple to understand, other than a few backstory character moments, but not very important to the overall story.
I also enjoyed the sound design, which is very good and throughout most of the film has natural storm sounds instead of background music or exciting scary music. This gave it a realistic feel and put you into the character’s world from numerous wind sounds to lots of water sounds. It was very immersive but the one annoying thing was that at times you had to turn up the volume lots to hear what people were saying.
People who may not like gore films might be ok with this film, as despite it being gory, no one is screaming in pain or anything which could help people who are not as keen on gore. For example, a man’s arm gets eaten but he continues walking and talking normally like he isn’t in pain.
Thrash was also a bit strange, and throughout the film it was very serious but then the last twenty minutes or so it had numerous jokes and comedy. To me it felt like the people wanted the film to be a comedy as well as a shark movie but forgot about the comedy aspect so crammed numerous jokes into the last twenty minutes as they realised they hadn’t been any comedy. The shark attacks are good but the sharks themselves only looked slightly better than Sharknado sharks.
That being said, the movie did have some downsides. There are a few bad character decisions but the thing I really didn’t enjoy was these three kids, they were foster kids but all especially the girl were super unlikeable and I just found them annoying and unnecessary. If they had made the characters likeable then maybe I would have been ok seeing them but they just annoyed me.
Overall, Thrash is a good film and it helps that it’s not overly long, it has some good cast and a few slightly tense moments. I enjoyed watching it but it’s nothing fantastic. Overall 3 ⭐️
