The Flash TV series – starring Grant Gustin is coming to an end; as Barry Allen faces his final run in season 9. In this article, there’s a plot for the new season, as well as casting information.
Season 9 will consist of 13 episodes, and is set to premiere February 8, on The CW.
What is the plot for The Flash Season 9?
According to TV Line, The Flash season 9 plot is set just one week after the events of Reverse Flash being defeated. Now, Barry and his team are face more danger as a new Rogues Gallery is formed in Central City by a powerful new threat. “A deadly new adversary rises to challenge Barry Allen’s heroic legacy. And in their greatest battle yet, Barry and Team Flash will be pushed to their limits, in order to save Central City one last time.”
Returning characters
Besides the regular Flash Season 9 cast, there are plenty of characters to look to forward to seeing return, as well as a character being brought for the first time in live-action.
The first surprise recently, is that Stephen Amell will reprise his role as Oliver Queen, alongside David Ramsey’s John Diggle in episode 9.
Arrow ended in 2020, after an 8 season-run. In the end, Oliver Queen became a very powerful supernatural entity known as The Spectre. Oliver was last seen joining Felicty in some form of afterlife, while John still remained appearing across multiple Arrowverse shows such as Batwoman, The Flash and Superman and Lois.
Also appearing the 9th episode directed by Danielle Panabaker: Keiynan Lonsdale’s final return as Kid Flash and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Bloodwork. This must be some epic episode to feature all of these characters!
A new comic accurate version of Captain Boomerang will also be making an appearance played by Richard Harmon. The role previous portrayed by Nick Emad Tarabay in the series.
Daimon Poitier will be returning as Goldface, alongside Andy Mientus as Hartley Rathaway/Pied Piper, Paul Anthony as Rainbow Raider and Max Adler as The Hotness.
Nicole Maines is also reprising her as Dreamer, this superhero character first appeared in The CW’s Supergirl series – starring Melissa Benoist, that finished in 2021.
New adversary
This one is quite the spoiler! We reported in October 2022, that Javicia Leslie’s Batwoman, and her character or a doppleganger version becomes a villain called Red Death. It’s the first time that Red Death will be seen in live action, although there was a name-drop for the menacing speedster in season 5. Batwoman series was ultimately cancelled by The CW in 2021, after 3 seasons.
In the trailer, there is a character shown with a mask; who is speculated to be a Post-Crisis version of Murmur, however it’s not confirmed yet.
This is of course not a complete list, as there are no doubt more to return that we don’t know about yet. A chance that some of the characters from Legends of Tomorrow might appear is not currently ruled out. It would also be great if Cisco could come back.
