After a 12 year run, with 11 seasons of ‘The Walking Dead’, this zombie apocalpyse show has come to an explosive end. However, the end is only the beginning; as this universe is expanding into many spin-offs.
The Walking Dead Universe
This article does contain spoilers about some of the surviving characters and who returned in the final episode.
Here are all of the announced spin-off shows that will be released in 2023:
Dead City
A double edged title for a surprising duo; Lauren Cohen and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprise their roles as Maggie and Negan once again.
These two characters will face hoards of walkers in a crumbling post-apocalyptic Manhattan, New York City. Dead City releases in April 2023.
Daryl Dixon
This series will focus on Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), as he ends up in Paris to battle a plague of zombies over there and will explore how he’s even got there in the first place.
In the finale of season 11, Daryl’s intention was to see if he could find Rick and Michonne along the way, so he’s likely followed a wrong trail to Paris.
Originally Carol was also going to be joining him, unfortunately, actress Melissa McBride was unable to move to Europe, as it was a logistical nightmare.
Rick & Michonne
Finally, the story continues for Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), the character was seen being rescued during season 9 episode 5, after nearly everyone thought that he died.
Michonne (Danai Gurira) also later found a boat, with a trail of clues leading to his return. Now, Rick does make an appearance in the final episode of The Walking Dead, and he’s in trouble!
Who is hunting down Rick Grimes?
Rick is being hunted down by an evil organisation called Civic Republic Military; this group was also shown in previous episodes of another spin-off called World Beyond and teased in Fear the Walking Dead.
Rick can also be seen wearing the organization’s symbols on his jacket, in the teaser at the end of season 11.
Fear the Walking Dead
This is a continuing spin-off series, that will be going onto its eighth season. Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) will finally be returning alongside co-star; Colman Damingo as Victor Strand.
