The first official trailer and synopsis for the DC film titled The Flash, was released.
There is so much to discuss in this trailer breakdown, from multiple Batmen, Supergirl, a new speedster villain and more.
Trailer Breakdown
The night where it all began

This trailer begins where Barry’s life was changed forever; by going back to to the house where his mother Nora Allen, was murdered and Henry Allen was framed.
Allen seeks advise from Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne to see if he can go back and save his mother, however Bruce advises against it.
The Flash still chooses to alter a fixed point, this has a ripple effect for the past, present and future. Barry lands himself in a timeline where he no longer has powers and there’s no people that he can find with meta-human abilities.
Michael Keaton’s Batman returns

Barry finds out that things have changed when he sees a doppleganger of himself, as well as Michael Keaton’s Batman being there instead of Batfleck.
Keaton’s Batman has been in retirement for a while now, however, Barry’s plea for help will bring him back to don the suit once again.
The Flash is desparately trying to hold onto a timeline where Nora is alive and Batman (Keaton) feels a deep connection to him because he also lost his parents.

Now that Bruce Wayne has agreed to help, they get to work on repeating an experiment that can give him back his meta-human powers by harnessing lightning using the Batwing tethered to Barry on the ground.
The Flash Ring

It seems that Affleck’s Batman could be the one to make this micro or nano tech style ring, that can fit a Flash suit inside of it. They would have a lot of money and a research & development department, to invent something like this.

Currently, I rule out Keaton’s Bruce making it because, when Barry is talking to Affleck about changing time, he still wears that same ring.
Prison break

Barry needs to find out if there are any Kryptonians on Earth, and it turns out that Kara Zor-El was the one to survive the destruction of Krypton, except she was later captured by the U.S military after the ship crash landed on Earth.
Batman and the two Barrys break out Supergirl from a military prison where they are keeping Kara away from a yellow sun; in order to leave her Kryptonian cells very weak.
General Zod’s Black Zero Event

The new timeline becomes a disaster due to General Zod and Faora-Ul showing up for an alternate Black Zero Event, different to the one in Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill.

It’s likely that Kara has the codex in her DNA this time, and Zod travels with a world engine to look for her instead; as the character says to Kara “We’ve been waiting for you”.

During the Black Zero Event, The Flash can be seen saving people at a building titled Martha Wayne Institute.
Dark Flash
In the usual Flashpoint story; Barry’s mother is killed by a speedster called Professor Zoom/Eobard Thawne, a villain from the 25th century. However, this movie seems to be taking a different approach.
Merchandise that’s recently been released shows a closer look of another speedster character called Dark Flash instead.

In the trailer, Dark Flash can also be seen on a battlefield very briefly @2:15 fighting that version of Barry Allen, who is dressed in a modified a Batman-Flash suit.
The villain has glowing red eyes and can also create a tornado of red lightning and seems to be shooting out shards/daggers from his suit. Dark Flash may also be alligned with General Zod as the battle seems to take place in the same location with those Kryptonian ships.
There are rumours this villain is more like Savitar and Black Flash combined (The Flash TV series); who tampered with the timeline too much. The identity of Dark Flash is not confirmed and I’m choosing to write the rumour about who this could be, as it may spoil a major plot point.
At the moment, from this trailer, there are two Barrys, two Batmen, two main villains and one Supergirl. Could there be more?
The Flash will also be resetting the universe at the end, to be able to lead into the new DCU movies; with the first chapter being called Gods & Monsters.
It’s important to note, these scenes presented in this way could be a misdirection and different to the intensions of those scenes in the movie itself. Some of these scene may not even be in the final cut.
Synopsis
Warner Bros. has also posted quite an extensive synopsis for this speedster movie.
Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past.
But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to.
That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for.
Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
