James Gunn has responded to the hiring news on various social media:
A hearty public welcome to Ana Nogueira to the DC Studios family. Ana is an amazing writer whose screenplay adaptation of Woman of Tomorrow is above and beyond anything I hoped it would be. We’re excited to be moving forward on this unique take on Supergirl in this beautiful, star-spanning tale.

What is the Woman of Tomorrow movie about?
Previously, Ana was originally going to write the screenplay for Sasha Calle’s iteration of Supergirl; as a spin-off to The Flash movie.
However, this has now been altered to fit in with the new DC Universe; and will focus on Kara Zor-El’s Kryptonian upbringing, where she was surrounded by frequent disasters and war. Differing to that of her cousin Kal-El, who was raised on a quiet farm on Earth, since being a baby.
This new Supergirl movie will be based Tom King’s comic book stories of the character. James Gunn mentions in this DC slate video from January, 2023:
“One of my favourite comic book series from last year was was Tom King’s run on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and so we’re gonna turn that into a big science-fiction epic film!
Now, Superman who was a guy who was sent to Earth and raise by loving parents. Whereas Supergirl in this story; she is a character was raised on a chunk of Krypton. She watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character”

It’s not currently known if the role will be recast, and there’s also no director, or release date announced as of yet.
At the end of June, 2023; it was revealed that David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan were cast to be the next Superman and Lois Lane, in Superman: Legacy, and this film will be releasing on July 11, 2025.
