The Legend of Juan Jose Mundo is based on a true story and follows Julie (Anna Mirodin); who hosts a charismatic, larger-than-life Spanish exchange student Juan (Alexandro Byrd). As he starts hooking up with the girls in her class, Julie falls in love with him.
The legend of Juan Jose Mundo is a very good film from the start you feel engaged with the characters. You are curious how the story is going to turn out. The world makes you feel you are right back in the 1980s from the set designs inside houses and the outfits and shoes.
The cast are fantastic; Anna Mirodin, as Julie, makes her character likeable, and I found myself relating to her a lot. I especially loved the little details in her performance, such as the way her eyes would glint and she would give a small smile whenever she knew she was about to do something a little naughty. Alexandro Byrd, as Juan, was also amazing. He did a great job of portraying Juan’s confidence. He also has a fantastic singing voice. I enjoyed seeing Juan’s more vulnerable side and how, at times, his confident exterior would disappear and he would become nervous and shy.
Anna Mirodin and Alexandro Byrd also have fantastic chemistry together and work really well as a pair. Their relationship feels believable, which makes Julie’s growing feelings for Juan even more engaging to watch.
Overall, The Legend of Juan Jose Mundo is a charming and enjoyable film with likeable characters, a strong sense of the 1980s and some fantastic performances. The chemistry between Anna Mirodin and Alexandro Byrd is one of the film’s highlights, and I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop. It is a film that draws you in from the beginning and keeps you curious about where the story will go. What’s even better is that it’s a true story!
